Kailash OS Cookbook

Task-oriented recipes for Kailash OS — attack, defence, ops and administrator walkthroughs in the cookbook format: a problem, a complete worked solution with real command shapes and expected output, and a discussion of why it works. Kailash OS Project

This book is the task-oriented companion to the Kailash OS guide. Where the guide explains what a tool is (man-style reference pages for the whole catalogue), the cookbook answers how do I do X: every page is a standalone recipe in the O’Reilly cookbook format —

  1. Problem — the task, in operator terms
  2. Solution — the copy-paste-able commands with expected output shapes
  3. Discussion — why it works, what it touches, when to choose an alternative
  4. See also — the matching reference pages and neighbour recipes

Recipes are worked runs, never invented transcripts: output renders as shapes with placeholders, and anything not yet worked against a real pin stays marked PENDING — the same no-invented-evidence rule the rest of the project documents follow.

0.1 How the book is organised

  • Sections are themes — Getting started / Scanning / Attack–defence pairs / Ops / Administrator. A recipe keeps its section for life; it is never re-parented between sections.
  • Level is metadata, not navigation — each recipe carries an easy/medium/hard level in its header, displayed on the page and counted in the recipe directory.
  • Top-10 collections are generated views — OWASP ML/LLM/API Top-10 recipe sets render as generated index pages over recipe tags, they never re-organise the book (see the recipe directory for the current coverage).

0.2 Status

The book is being built in the 2026.01 release window. The recipe template, the organisation ADR and one worked exemplar (garak) are in place; the remaining sections carry explicit PENDING stubs while their recipes are worked. Progress is tracked on the repository’s issue tracker (cookbook parent: the repo’s pinned issue).
